New China CCC Mark

On December 11, 2001, China became the 143rd member of the World Trade Organization (WTO). In the past, most manufacturers importing into China had to optain two marks of conformity, the CCEE (Great Wall) and CCIB Marks. Because of this, manufacturers had to involve two safety organizations, and encounter high costs and slow approval times. With the accession of China into the WTO, authorities issued a new regulation to help speed up manufacturers`time to market and reduce cost. The new regulation, the China Compulsory Certification Scheme(CCC Scheme) requires manufacturers of products subjected to compulsory certification to apply one mark, the new CCC Mark. The CCC Scheme will be implemented on May 1, 2002. Products that bear the CCEE and CCIB Marks have until May 1, 2003, to transfer their existing certification approval to the new CCC Mark.
